about
This song was over 3 years in the making and is dedicated to every fan that has supported This Divided World from the beginning.
I wrote this song shortly after the release of our EP, The Missing Pages, in 2013. This song (originally called "New Song 2014" in pre-production) was intended to be a single that would imitate the writing style of the first full-length album, When Darkness Reigns, that made This Divided World popular in the first place. This song was a return to old-school deathcore with a touch of epic metalcore, as demonstrated in the fan-favorite song "Redeemed."
After the departure of vocalist Mark Young, post-When Darkness Reigns, this song was intended to be the reuniting comeback song. Unfortunately, our schedules didn't ever line up to work together on this song. I have taken a rain check on that deal.
I returned to my trusted friend, vocalist, and collaborator from the song "The Book of Life" (one of the most loved songs from The Missing Pages EP), Greg Sutton.
I met Greg at a local metal show at the Dubland Underground venue in Rochester, NY. Greg's band at the time was Great Was The Fall, a beatdown hardcore band with two frontmen. After opening for some national metal acts, I introduced myself after the show. I was overjoyed that Greg and his band represented Christ, our Lord. I connected again with Greg when his band played the large iMatter festival, being impressed once again by his vocal power. Greg has been a blessing to me and to This Divided World, demonstrating the grace and sustaining power of Christ in a life.
This song is a collaboration between myself and many others over the course of 3 years. Yes, it was LONG overdue. I want you to know that Jesus loves you and This Divided World is still here.
Take this song as a down payment of future music to come. I don't have dates, or song titles, just the knowledge that my passion for This Divided World has not yet grown cold. Please be patient as I continue to live a full life; married, working full-time, and hobbyist music composer.
This song is for you.

lyrics
Truth vs. Circumstance (LYRICS)
I spent a lot of time fixing myself
Desperate for help but too proud to ask
Hands behind my back, feet shackled and bound
Convinced that change was between me and Love
Drowning in my own religious ideals
A man-made God crafted with my own two hands
God is not who you make him to be
He’s love and forgiveness no matter how much you disagree
You can believe that the grass is blue
And you can believe that the sky is green
But the fact that remains is that you’re wrong
Circumstances may have led you to believe that God is mean
That He is an angry God cutting down all who oppose Him
But when you find out who He really is and what He is really about
Blurred becomes clear, agony becomes joy
And the tears become a smile on your face
Go ahead and tell me it’s a crutch
I’d really like to meet the person who doesn’t need a crutch
We all rely on something or someone
I choose to rely on the One who never fails.
But until you find out for yourself I know it’s all just hearsay
I’d beg you to believe
But I know it will not work
I cannot change your mind
So I hope my love at least lets you know that I care
No matter who you are or what you believe in
I may not get another chance to tell you
I hope you know how much you are loved by Him
It’s not my goal to make you believe or to make you like me
I just hope you know who you are in His eyes
You can’t comprehend how much He adores you to death
His blood was shed on yours and my behalf
I will not let His life amount to just another creed
He wanted you to see that through His death upon that cross
You have been freed
Honey you’re no whore just because they say you are
Brother you’ve got worth
I see you through the eyes of a God who loves you without end
Don’t go to sleep one more night
With your past and your pains
Making tomorrow the same
Don’t go, don’t go

Symphonic stuff in metal doesn’t make its way into my collection aside from a couple of early Cradle albums. The orch here though just ads to how huge this band sounds. It makes elements in the songs more immersive. There are plenty of breaks from orchestration where its in deathcore/slamming brutality mode. While not ignorant, the songs never play with time or get mathy making it accessible and memorable. Came out 2015? Impressed. Mitch Mitcherson
